xMiscellen(October 2008) The same white Candoglia-Marble used to build the Milan cathedral will now also be used for the new Museum of Modern Art. A draft of the plans was presented by architect Daniel Libeskind. The building with unusual shape (in German) is due to be completed in 2010.

Many of the 28 newcomer cities joining the ranks of the Unesco World Heritage since July 2008 as sites of outstanding cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of humanity have much to do with stone. Outstanding examples are Gjirokastra in Albania known as the „stone city“, or the Temple Preah Vihear in Kambodia, famous for its stone ornaments. Among the most important natural sites is the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona situated in the alps: Ancient stones stradled newer ones puzzleing scientists since its discovery and giving unique insight in the formation of the mountain chain.
