Salvatori und Patricia Urquiola: Collection “The Small Hours.“

The new features in the “The Small Hours“ collection are intended to make the time between sleep and day more intensely experienced

“The Small Hours“ is the title of the new collection of Salvatori and Patricia Urquiola. It is about bathroom design between night and daytime business, which you have all to yourself in the bathroom. The Spanish designer and the Italian company see this as an opportunity for more than the usual hygiene care of the body.

The bathroom’s respective design should help you concentrate fully on your own sensory world.

Salvatori also attaches a special role to the colors of its natural stones: new to the range for the surfaces in the bathroom are the strong green tones of the marble varieties Verde Guatemala and Verde Antico. Until now, the company limited itself to tones from white to gray and brownish to black.

Intense colors were only used for artistic objects or accessories. “There is a demand for colors on the market,” we learned during our visit to the showroom in Milan.

While natural stone was previously the sole focus of Salvatori’s program, steel and wood have been added for The Small Hours. The aim is to open up a broader horizon of perception for the bathroom user through the “interaction between materials”: “Steel creates an intriguing contrast with the softness of wood and majesty of stone,” is the concept.

However, the company does not want to shake up its profile: “With its incredible range of colors and veining patterns, natural stone is the undoubted star of the collection.”

Traditionally, Salvatori also sees surfaces as a playing field for design. Since 2010, new products have been developed with various designers; now the new variant “Quadricola“ has been announced: “Named Quadricola after the typical exercise books used in Italy which feature squares rather than lines, it is a mosaic of six tiles. Its versatility opens up a raft of design and laying options, particularly in unconventionally shaped spaces. “ Other new products this year include new types of stone and new surfaces for well-known collections.
