Many of the activities there are now carried out on machines or from a computer
It is a classic Win-Win situation that both sides can shape to their benefit: the stone sector has difficulties finding qualified staff, people with disabilities are often unemployed. This is where the “Inclusivestone“ project comes in: It has developed learning modules on how this group of people can be interested in jobs in the stone sector and, conversely, how the industry can appeal to them. Because: nowadays, in the world of stone processing, there are many activities that are mechanized and done on machines.
There are also plenty of jobs for office or salespeople.
The project ran from 2022 to 2024 and was funded by the EU as part of the Erasmus+ program. Natural stone and disability organizations from Spain, Greece and Croatia were involved, which we name individually below. The German Natural Stone Association (DNV) was in charge.
The project results and a manual are now available. There are nine videos that can be used by interested parties to find out about certain activities in the stone sector, such as loading a truck with a forklift or operating a crane to move tons of raw blocks around the company.
The fact that these learning modules are available in digital form was particularly important to the organizations and companies involved: on the one hand, disabled people can use them to learn more through self-study, and on the other hand, the industry improves its image.
The learning tools also offer aging people the opportunity to gain an impression of new fields of activity in marble, granite, etc.
The organizations involved were:
* CTM – Asociación Empresarial de Investigación Centro Tecnológico del Mármol, Piedra y Materiales (Spain),
* KSK – Klesarska Skola Stonemasonry school (Croatia),
* iED – Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (Greece),
* FAMDIF-COCEMFE – Federación de Asociaciones Murcianas de Personas con pacidad Física y Orgánica (Spain),
* DNV – Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband.
