American Caviar from Cochise Marble company.

Name of the stone: American Caviar

Stone tyble: marble

Color: white with dark gray oval-shaped layers or rounded nodules

Quarry: near the town of Willcox, Chiricahua Mountains in Cochise County, Southeast Arizona, USA

Description of the stone: American Caviar is a white marble reminding stones from Italy, Greece or Spain. Its pure white color and the subtle veining lend an airy, ethereal vibe to the stone.

Peculiarities of the stone: It is the least type of rock one would expect from Arizona characterized by yellow, brown and red sandstones and limestones. But millions of years ago, the Cochise marbles – American Caviar, Apache, Geronimo – were marine limestones later transformed by volcanic heat into real metamorphoric marbles.

Usage: inside, outside, countertops, walls and floors, finished pieces like firepits, water features, and textured paving, just to name a few. The stone is certified for use on government-projects.

Surfaces: various

Company: Cochise Marble LLC has its quarry on an expansive deposit, covering over 320 acres. The quarry was established in 1908 and thrived for years before eventually ceasing in 1937. In 2002, it was purchased by the Klump family who had a vision to bring this highly prized material back into the market. In 2013, modern quarrying techniques were established and new ground has been broken. To pay respect to the land and its history, Cochise marble has established a zero-waste-production:
* Blocks, slabs and cut-to-size objects are the high-profile quarry products;
* smaller pieces are cut into veneer, and leftover remnants are crushed into gravel;
* even the white sand is used for decorative planters and as an ingredient in cement.
The 99% purity of the marble means it can also be processed into a refined powder for adhesives and pigments.
