Solid stone construction for the Marché Couvert in Saint Dizier, France. Architects: Collectif Studiolada (Christophe Aubertin, Aurélie Husson).Concepts for load-bearing natural stone constructions by The Stonemasonry Company, London.

Webinar on Thursday, April 17, 2025 (11:00am-12:00pm Eastern Standard Time, EST)

Architects around the world are looking at solid construction with natural stone to improve the carbon footprint of construction. Some propose a modular system where small, rectangular blocks of limestone or sandstone, for example, are assembled. In a webinar by the US Natural Stone Institute (NSI) on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Piere Bidaud will present ideas for an innovative system of prefabricated natural stone elements, among other things.

Born in France, he is a stonemason with more than 30 years of professional experience and works as Creative Director at The Stonemasonry Company in London. The company is well-known for sophisticated solutions, including load-bearing structures made of natural stone. Bidaud also pursues the combination of traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering techniques.

The lecture will initially focus on the possibilities that natural stone offers for the decarbonization of construction. Another aspect will be innovative designs for load-bearing structures. Finally, he will address the question of how stone can be included in the national and international roadmaps to decarbonization.

The webinar is free of charge also for non-members of the NSI. Only registration is required.

See the NSI-webpage for an online tool to convert EST to your own time zone.
