Description of the stone: a breccia is a stone composed of rock fragments held together in a fine-grained matrix. The sedimentation process “baked“ these elements together but kept them visible, which gives the stones their unique appearance. The colors are strong and striking.

Peculiarities of the stone: The Romans utilized the stone for cladding and interior purposes, but the business later fell into decline. The Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo I of the Medici family, gave new impetus to the mining of white marble and colorful breccias in the area when he built his villa in Seravezza, from where he could closely monitor the quarry activities. It is a tourist attraction nowadays.

Application: mainly decorative applications like kitchen countertops or artistic objects, but also possible for cladding for walls or floors.
