Lower Silesia’s heart of granite production will have its central local event from June 17 – 19, 2016
Strzegom in Poland’s Lower Silesia will have its town festival from June 17 – 19, 2016. As the city with a 25,000 population is called „Granitowe Serce Polski“ (the „heart“ of Poland’s granite production) everything turns around this natural stone.
Strzegom is located about 140 km East of Görlitz at the German border in Saxonia and not far from Wroclaw.
The central event on Friday after the opening ceremony will be the banquette of the stone-masons together with town-officials and invited guests. Part of the exercise is to drink together a tankard of beer (not really only one).
The tankard will bear a special stone masons’ sign.
Saturday will bring a variety of granite presentations on the marketplace with the local quarries showing raw materials and with stone masons working on products or with machinery demonstrations. Visitors can get an introduction into how to work natural stone.
The focus of the event is on families. A city rallye leads to the most sightseeing and historical points of the town.
„The Strzegom 12 – Let’s run together“ (Strzegomska Dwunastka – Biegajmy Razem) is the title of a course starting at the marketplace leading along various quarries back to the market place with a length of 12 km. Another version has 6 km and 7 quarries.
Winners are awarded the medal our photo shows. It is made of granite.
Most events a re free of costs. Registration is needed for the run, but it is still possible an Saturday (Polish).
