Significantly better sales prices per ton were achieved again in almost all target markets
While most export countries in the stone sector had to record a significant decline in 2023, Portugal was almost able to reach its all-time high from the previous year (€492.8 million): at €487.6 million, the decline in value was only (-)0.04%. The national association Assimagra (Associação Portuguesa da Indústria dos Recursos Minerais) published these figures on its website.
By tonnage, there was a decrease of (-)5,03 %, but this reveals that the country was again able to achieve a better average sales value than: The increase in value per ton showed a strong +5,24 % (2022: +20,59 %).
Double-digit price increases were achieved in trade with many countries.
For bulk buyers, however, the results were different this time: lower average values per tonne were achieved in France (-8.37%) and in the case of China as a block buyer, the increase was only + 1.93%.
In total, Portugal‘s companies supplied natural stones to 121 countries (2022: 118). More than half (53,5 %)) of the total volume went to the EU.
