Description of the stone: Darney is a beautiful carboniferous sandstone known for its light gold through to blonde coloration and excellent weathering properties. Quarry records date back to 1918. With extensive reserves readily available, Darney is the stone of choice for both new build and conservation projects across Scotland and the North of England.
Peculiarities of the stone: Darney Sandstone was used extensively from the start of the 20th Century in many significant buildings gaining high reputation enough to see it travelling extensively to Edinburgh. There, it was used in many of the great projects like The New Town including Edinburgh‘s Bank Street High Court of the Justiciary, The Glen Eagles Hotel (formerly National Bank of Scotland), The highly impressive Usher Hall on Lothian Road, and the imposing former Scottish Parliament at St. Andrews House described on completion in 1939 as “By far the most impressive work of architecture in Scotland before the war“.
Application: Suitable for all types of architectural masonry, landscaping, cladding and general building.
