The exhibition “Axis Mundi” at the Museo Lapidario Maffeiano during Marmomac and afterwards until October 12, 2025, shows some of the works of Italian industrial designer and stone artist Raffello Galiotto, which take up the forms of nature and have been realized in objects made of colored natural stone. However, Galiotto did not work with the classic tools of a sculptor, but instead had his designs implemented by CNC machines.

A characteristic feature of his work is that he likes to push the boundaries: sometimes the objects are so intricate that they cannot be carved out of a raw block using normal tools; sometimes even standard CNC tools are not up to the task, so he works with the companies involved to develop new tools.

The Museo Lapidario Maffeiano in Verona, located directly on Piazza Bra with the Roman Colosseum in Verona, is an ideal stage for Galiotto‘s approach to art and creativity: it is one of the oldest museums in Europe and houses venerable art objects from many centuries. Galiotto contrasts them with his ideas on modern sculpture – for him, this confrontation is the “axis of the world,” to be understood as a challenge for each new generation.

The exhibition was organized in cooperation with ArtVerona, the municipality, Marmomac, and the municipal museums.
