Name of the stone: Vermont Danby Marble®
Stone type: pure marble with ten varieties of color and structure
Color: white
Quarry location: near the village of Danby, state of Vermont, East Coast of the US
Description of the stone: The Danby marble is known for its elegance and noble appearance. Depending on the layers in the mountains where it is cut, it has ten varieties: pure white (Olympian Danby), serene subtlety (Olympian White), green-on-white (Vermont Cipollino), vivid grey and brown (Fantastico Danby), clay minerals (Imperial Danby), with phyllosilicate minerals (Montclair Danby), and more. It was used for the US Supreme Court, Jefferson Memorial, headstones and the amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery, just to name a few.
Peculiarities of the stone: Quarrying and manufacturing is all located underground, making Vermont Quarries one of a kind. Extraction started in the 1850s but was closed in the 1970s like all other pits in the region. A revival came in 1993 with the partnership of two Italian companies, R.E.D. Graniti and Mazzucchelli Marmi. Since then, the Danby quarry has developed to be the largest underground marble quarry in the world, stretching 1.5 miles into the Dorset Mountains.
Application: Danby marble has an extremely low porosity (0.06% to 0.08%) and is, therefore, less likely to stain. It is used outdoors for façade cladding or landscape gardening, and indoors for kitchens, countertops, bathrooms, flooring, commercial spaces, and more.
Finishes: Brushed, honed, polished
Certifications:
Frost resistant: Yes
