“Sharnana,“ a two m long shark-banana hybrid, won the 2024 Allens People’s Choice Award and the Kids’ Choice Prize at the 2024 Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, outdoor sculpture exhibition. The prizes value a total of AU$10,000. Drew McDonald is an Australian artist and made this work from recycled plastic, calcium carbonate, steel and acrylic paint.

Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi is an event taking place every year in October/November at the two kilometer Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk near Sydney, Australia. During the 18-day-show, 500,000 visitors come together viewing over 100 sculptures by artists from around the world.

The show was held for the first time in 1997 and is probably the world’s largest free outdoor sculpture exhibition.
In March every year it has a sister event on the other side of the Australian continent, the Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in Perth at the Indian Ocean. Staged since 2005, this show features over 70 sculptures and is visited by 220,000 people. Yet in 2025, the event in Cottesloe is paused due to lack of federal funding.
