“Building in Stone Today” (Construir en Piedra Hoy, CEPH 2025) is the topic of an international meeting of architects, builders, university teachers, and stone masons in Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia and Madrid, Spain, from January 13 – 31, 2025. They will discuss the role natural stone can play as a construction material of the future and present new ideas based on the old heritage. In the core of the lectures and the practical exercises will stand solid construction with stone, so stone as a load bearing material as it was during centuries. The language of the meeting will be Spanish.
Registration is free. Registered participants will get online access to the meetings on 24 (held at the College of Architects of Murcia) and from 27 to the 31 (held at the Casa de la Cruz in Caravaca).
The program highlights the following aspects:
* Discover how natural stone with its low carbon footprint is transforming sustainable construction in Europe;
* find inspiration in the historical use of stone to create avant-garde and contemporary designs;
* learn about real case studies of projects in France, the UK and Spain presented by international experts.
Practical experience will also be part of the event: “We will together build a massive stone vault with an innovative technique: stereotomic slab, and we will make a partial replica of the spiral staircase of the Velez Chapel (Cathedral of Murcia),“ as said in the program, “in a context in which sustainability and decarbonization of the (construction) sector are urgent, this event will be a space for learning, inspiration and connection between professionals committed to change.“
