In some towns, there are official regulations on what door signs should look like. Where not, there are examples of private creativity that residents have implemented together with sculptors and stonemasons. We show examples from various countries.
You can find them on almost every corner in Venice and in the marble regions of Italy. There are even official commandments and prohibitions on marble there.
There are also many design options for house numbers. The rules here are usually stricter than for door signs because the numbers should also be legible at night. Some houses therefore have small works of art in addition to the illuminated numbers.
Finally: mailboxes are also a topic for designs with natural stone. As are small elements on the facade…
At the bottom is a house number (not made of stone) from Fürth, Germany, which we particularly liked.
