With Editions Milano, one of those companies that develops down-to-earth design with natural stone presented itself at the Salone del Mobile 2025. These are everyday stone objects that can actually be used. They live up to the phrase “Form Follows Function,“ according to which the functionality of the object takes precedence over appearance.
For some time now, we’ve been observing at design and furniture fairs that more and more designers are creating such pieces in stone.
One of the hallmarks is that they no longer have massive forms, as if they were sculptures created by sculptors. This reduces their weight and makes them manageable in the home and kitchen.
Perhaps, in the case of Editions Milano, a peripheral aspect had an even greater influence: the company sells its products exclusively online, and weight and dimensions continue to play a role.
The company also invites designers who have already worked extensively with natural stone and therefore know what the material can and cannot do.
In a brief description of its identity, the company emphasizes that its goal is not art but making money: “Editions Milano was born in the contemporary homeland of design, where production is just two steps away and its promotion is an engine that drives the city all year long.“
We show some objects from the collections. In the coming months, we will introduce other companies dedicated to the natural stone design market segment below the luxury and super-luxury segments.
Six weeks before Christmas, our page with recommendations for gifts made of stone will be back.
