The creative summer “White Carrara” is celebrating its 9th edition this year. Under the motto “Design Here and Now”, selected designers have conceived new objects, which have been realized in cooperation with local businesses and will be exhibited on the streets and squares of the city until 28 September.

We have already presented the outdoor projects (see link below).

Now we turn our attention to the indoor exhibitions.

First and foremost is the Museo delle Arti Carrara (mudaC). There is the exhibition “Vincenzo Marsiglia. Stars and Dust”, where the artist transforms the white marble stone until it becomes fabric and a digital carrier material.

Many parts of the work deal with marble dust, stemming from the sawing of the raw blocks.

The sense of smell is also stimulated. The fragrance “Ethereal Carrara”, which was created especially for the artist‘s work by Atelier Fragranze Milano, lends the sculpture a fragrant soul. It is an olfactory and visual journey that transforms the sculpture into something extraordinary and alive.

The artist also works with digital media and projections.

The exhibition “Gianluca Sgherri. Uninverso” is also taking place at mudaC. This installation hovers between the real and the imaginary: The artist was inspired by the black and white floor tiles and developed a vision from them. It shows many small windows in which parallel universes open up – more precisely: inverted universes, “uninverses,” as Sgherri calls them.

They are populated with cups, teaspoons or small letters, which in turn are charged with multiple meanings and oscillate between personal memory and universal imagination.

In the Spazio Paretra, a cultural space with a past as an industrial site, numerous design objects are on display.

There are guided tours (“Visite guidate White Carrara”) to the works of art in the city center. They take place on Fridays (July 18, August 01, August 08, August 22, September 05 and September 19), if at least five participants (maximum 25) register. The tours last from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and go from Piazza Duomo via Piazza delle Erbe, Via Loris Giorgi, Palazzo Pisani, Piazza Alberica to the exhibition in Spazio Paretra in Via Beccheria 5.

Registration and scheduling by e-mail cultura@comune.carrara.ms.it.
