Description of the stone: Oolitic Limestone. One of the world’s most recognized stone and the initial candidate stone for the Global Heritage Stone register.
Peculiarities of the stone: Portland Stone was already quarried and used in Roman times. Since the 11th century, is has been THE building material in Southern England, with its varieties serving iconic national sites including St Paul’s Cathedral, the British Museum and the Bank of England in London. Since the 18th century, it has been a success also internationally including the United Nations building in New York City or war graves of the British Empire.
Application: Cladding, walling, paving and all internal applications.
Finishes: Typically rubbed to a 50 grit or 120 grit.
Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, BES 6001 to the Excellent standard (only stone in the world to achieve this level), EPD (2024)
