Peculiarities of the stone: It has been qurried since 1884, used in many buildings across the US and exported worldwide. The name „oolitic“ refers to the the millimeter-sized spheres of carbonate called ooids of which it is composed. New research shows that they probably are the result of seafloor biofilms mineralized up to 340 million years ago, predating the dinosaurs.
