Design: Material und function to the foreground

(April 2012) Minimalist down to the last detail would best describe German-based Draenert Company’s „Mortimer“ side table: nothing but the bare material is visible at first glance, i.e. a natural stone plate on a steel tripod. The design-effort which designer Stephan Veit put into the table, disappears in the understatement of form.

The light slabs are Silver quartzite, the dark ones, Brown Antico granite.

In both cases the stone has the outer appearance of leather. The edge is rough. Available in a variety of stone types.

The tripod flat-bar construction is made of steel coated only with a thin clear lacquer. The colour of the steel harmonizes astonishingly well with the stone.
