(April 2012) The stone branch has many beautiful materials – but only a small variety of products! This is the starting point for Peter Becker, editor of Stone-Ideas.com, in his lecture about new product ideas for natural stone and about how they can be found and developed.
The lecture titled „Setting Proper Expectations with the Design Professional about Natural Stone“ will take place at the Coverings fair on April, 30, 2013, 9.30-10.30 a.m.
Achille Castiglioni’s famous lamp „Arco“ (Bow) on the photo above reveals Becker’s concept: the material must support the function of the product, in other words: as „Arco“ needs a heavy counterweight stone is an appropriate material for the foot of the lamp.
Yet: How to move such a lamp which weighs some 45 kg? Castiglioni drilled a little hole through the stone so that a broomstick may go through…
Peter Becker will show new and old product ideas from all over the world. He will give examples where it makes sense to use natural stone for objects for everyday life.
And also, where it makes no sense (see photo below).
