(July 2013) India 1: Brazilian granite manufacturers are counting on even higher demand in raw blocks from e.g. Chinese and Indian buyers. The reason according to the trade magazine Abirochas (9/2013) is the shutdown of the Indian granite mogul PRP Granites due to corruption and violation of environmental protection legislation mid 2012 (Portuguese).

India 2: European stone manufacturers hope to loosen import restrictions for natural stone destined for the Indian market. In light of the fact that the India’s middle class is an wide open market for natural stone, particularly since local production is subject to restrictive licensing.  

    As of July 1st, the CE-Mark for stone in the European Union (EU) is mandatory. We reported in detail in our November 2008 edition.   

Frank Gehry’s design for the Eisenhower Memorial in Washington DC has been unanimously approved by a federal commission. Stone may be used for carvings in bas reliefs depicting Eisenhower’s accomplishments as general and president and also a quotation (1, 2).

Willowbank Stone Festival, to be held from September 13th to 15th in Canada, will celebrate the role of natural stone in the various cultures.
