Natural stone with bold colors and conspicuous lines are often dubbed „paintings by mother-nature“. But as far as marketing is concerned, there is one nagging problem: they can hardly be implemented in large slabs because the over-all impression is too busy.
But there is always the possibility setting accents. This was the idea behind Grupo Corcovado Brasigran’s tables and seats using local quartzite. Renata Malenza, head of marketing, and only peripherally interested in design, was the actual initiator. She invited designer Ronaldo Barbosa to develop it.
And voilà: out came the „Pedra Brasileira“ (Brazilian Stone) Collection.
The name is sober and sleek – and so is the design. Ronaldo Barbosa integrates the stone in a no-fuss design and sets it on stainless steel legs in gold, silver or bronze.
Square or rectangular basic shapes.
Other geometric shapes are integrated such as parabola, triangles or rectangles.
Renata Malenza and Ronaldo Barbosa’s concept provides for „the beauty of the stone to show in its own right“. In this respect the project goes beyond furniture design. It is about „discovering new concepts for natural stone“.
Of course each piece is unique, simply because the stone’s color and veins are never the same for any two slabs. Of course the possibility of mixing and matching shapes and colors is unlimited.
