Gabions – product area with great potential for artists and designers alike

Gabions are a product area offering potential for artists and designers alike. Up until now the wire-mesh encasings mostly have been filled with plain gravel or chunks of stone as often seen on riverbanks or along highways. Occasionally one might find a round shape.

Italian-based Zanettin Company tackles the theme with creative gusto. At last year’s Marmomacc, Zanettin presented unusual ideas from the product line „Z Line“. An entire array of arches and other elements could be viewed in the yard.

A special variant shows the wide range of possibilities and forms the name of the Company in gabions.

The Company endeavors to maximize material exposure. The wire mesh encasings are made of European stainless steel as expounded in the catalogue. The stone filling is chosen according to color and originate from Italy. A variety of sizes of stone are available.

The standard products are meant to inspire customers and help them develop their own unique ideas. Realizing such ideas is the Zanettin’s specialty ever since it was founded in the 1950’s by two brothers.

At first the Company started out with a mere sand pit but soon developed a process of sorting gravel according to size, color and shape. Ever since then, Zanettin has had a foible for innovative ideas in design.

Occasionally, the company solicits the aid of artists, e.g. for this table with a fish-shaped top panel in which wood meets stainless steel and stone; models in glass or with integrated lighting are also available.
The Company is quick to emphasize that gabions can be easily disassembled and material used elsewhere. For transportation the elements are merely plug-connected or joined by bolts.
