Designers working with Josep Vilas prefer to allow the material to speak for itself and understate design
The distinguishing factor of good design is that products blend in with their surroundings and unobtrusively fulfill their function. An example in point is Aparentment Disseny’s wine holder: in the photo above it goes unnoticed – the bottle of wine resting upon it takes the stage.
This second photo is another example: the product itself is not the eye-catcher. The same is true for the tray, both from the „Marbleous“ Collection. The name is a portmanteau combining marble and marvelous.
Whereas other designers tend to place the focus on marble as a very special material, Josep Vila Capdevial, CEO and founder of designstudio Aparentment Disseny, prefers understatement.
Case in point: the lamp…
… or the towel rack.
The almost humble design allows the beauty of the stone to unfold throughout the entire „Marbleous“-collection.
Let it be known that we consider both the humble and the boastful legitimate and appropriate uses of the material.
See below for more photos of Josep Vila’s works in marble, some of which originate from the „Marbleous“-collection. Note that the stone is quite thick – almost massive in all objects of the collection.
But first let us cast a glance at the 3-D objects which are full of tongue in cheek creativity and thus which we find particularly pleasing:
The marble brick trivializes the material while allowing praise and acclaim for the work itself.
„Brain Soap“ is Josep Vila’s material for choice for brainwashing,…
… whereas „Greedy pivot“, is feeder and trough for the XXL-Canine. The designer’s webpage explains that the accessory avoids poor posture and ensuing spinal problems in large dogs who commonly forced to stoop over their food.
