„Peace“ is the theme of this year’s Bisanthe Symposium in the Turkish City of Tekirdağ located at the Western shores of the Marmara See not too far from Istanbul. The meeting of international stone sculptors takes place for the second time in the Suleymanpasha Municipality at the waterline. Its name refers to how the place had been called in antique Greek or Byzantine times.
It was the setting of many old myths among them Hero and Leander, two lovers living on different sides of the perilous strait.
Nermin Sozle is the curator of the event and she sent us the information. She graduated from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir, Fine Art Faculty, Department of Sculpture. Before, she had already curated the 1st Bergamon Stone Sculpture Symposium and last year’s 1st Bisanthe Symposium.
The stone the artists use in the symposium is white Marmara marble form the region.
After the event, the ownership of the sculptures passes to the Suleymanpasha Municipality. During the last three days of the symposium, the final installation of the works is realized by the management under the supervision of the artists.
