(July 2008) If prices for natural stone from China are on the rise, they must be falling in India, at least in the State of Rajasthan. In the early months of 2008 Rajasthan’s chief minister Ms. Vasundhara Raje cut taxes for this and similar products from previously 12% to 4%. At first the decree only applied to marble but was then broadened to include garnite and various types of sandstone.
The Center for Development of Stones (CDOS) had long demanded this step to be taken, and vicepresident Ashok Kumar Dhoot welcomed the measure in a mail addressed to BusinessStone.com. „The step is very helpful for the development of the stone producing industry and the positive effects have already been felt during the last three months“.
