Some types of marble have a structure of veins that is simply captivating. This applies in both senses of the word to the Italian Cipollino Misto, and this naturally tempts designers to play with it and create extraordinary pieces of furniture. For “Islas” (Islands), the Italian company Neutra teamed up with the design studio Draw, and the result is two large-format dining tables on whose tops the veins of the stone can practically run wild.
And that’s not all the rushing marble flow or the swirling surf: The base of the tables is made up of an a Y-shape, on the one hand a vertically positioned stone slab with veins that also run from one end to the other, and on the other a leg made of hand-polished and burnished brass.
This is great design art (“Functional Sculptures”.)
What is remarkable, however, is how thin and almost delicate the tabletops are.
The size of the tables is generous: 285 × 145 cm and 320 × 160 cm respectively.
