The essence of the “Adym“ bookcase lies in the combination of the material strength of marble and the lightness of aluminium, creating a refined and versatile modular system. The designers are Gabriele and Oscar Buratti for Italian Neutra company.

The aluminium shelves, with a special mirror-effect pigmented coating available in six colour variants, alternate with double marble bases. Ideal as a wall-mounted bookcase, “Adym“ stems from the search for a formal perfection that enhances the material without compromise.

“In the creative process, this bookcase remained almost unchanged from the initial concept. The key was to find the perfect balance of proportions, an essential aspect when working with stone, which does not allow for correction. You don’t add, you take away, as in sculpture,“ Gabriele and Oscar Buratti say.

The quest for the essential is one of the distinctive elements of Adym, as is the relationship between the lightness of the tops and the sculptural strength of the marble spacers, characterised by a central slit that accentuates the visual rhythm. A detail that, while subtle, is at the heart of the composition.

“If it were in my home, I would populate it with volumes on architecture and art, catalogues of exhibitions I have visited, references that nourish my work and my inspiration. Next to the books, objects collected over time would find a place: vases, sculptures, wood and glass elements, each linked to a significant moment, a journey, an encounter,“ explains Gabriele Buratti.

In this way, the bookcase goes beyond its usual function as a storage for print objects and becomes a custodian of memories and passions, works of art and objects collected over time.

The apparent simplicity of Adym conceals a sophisticated fixing system, designed to guarantee stability and ease of assembly without altering its formal purity. In addition, the compositional freedom offers the possibility of creating multi-level solutions, allowing for versatile and complex space organisation. Possible configurations include two-tier bases, three-tier consoles, and bookcases with four, five or more shelves.

Neutra writes in its self-description: “Neutra, a company with its roots in 1880 in Italy, in the heart of Brianza, specializes in the supply and processing of marble and natural stone. With over 140 years of history, the brand is known and appreciated for its know-how in the production of furniture with a minimalist and rigorous character. Products and furnishing accessories, made with sartorial care thanks to technological expertise and in-depth knowledge of materials, have always been the protagonists of the company’s collections. In 2022 Neutra’ s course reached an important turning point, with the acquisition of the company by Emanuele Chicco Busnelli, son of Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, the historical founder of B&B Italia, one of the companies that has most innovated the Italian and international furnishing scene. Chicco Busnelli’s entry into the ownership grafted a new vitality and inaugurated for Neutra a period of research in the direction of timeless elegance. This gave rise to a new generation of furnishings in marble, stone and other materials, distinguished by a strong personality: an important evolution marked by the new creative direction entrusted to the Migliore+Servetto design studio.”
